DEXTRO: Consequence Music

This was actually self-released in 2006 on the 16K label, but it wasn’t until this year that it was picked up by Grønland. Scot Ewan Mackenzie put together a fantastic amalgam of nu-gaze* rock and electronica of the Ulrich Schnauss / Port-Royal school. Boards Of Canada comparisons were lazily made, but these were pretty wide of the mark. Consequence Music is much more beefy than that, partly due to the fact that Mackenzie is no mean drummer.

* This is a term I first came across today used to describe the new wave of Slowdive / My Bloody Valentine influenced acts. It’s utterly vile, and I’ve used it here with my tongue very firmly planted in my cheek.
