The 4 CD Kesto box from a couple of years back had a certain warm organic feel to it, but Katodivaihe came over like a nuclear winter. The first track may have featured a lone melancholy cello, but from there on in things got positively scary. There were speaker-shredding pulses of noise, metallic scrapings, periods of ominous near-silence and skull-crushing beats. Not exactly a post-club chillout record, then. Katodivaihe may be quite punishing in parts, but it’s a thrilling ride.
