Sad news. Swedish pianist Esbjörn Svensson died on Saturday (14th) whilst scuba diving. He was just 44. The trio he led, EST, were that rarest of creatures – a jazz group who could cross over to other audiences without blanding out. I saw them just once – at the Arches in Glasgow about three years ago. The crowd reflected the group’s wide appeal – jazz beards, electronica geeks and experimental rock fans could all find something of interest to take away.
