SUSANNA: Sonata Mix Dwarf Cosmos

This oddly named LP was Susanna Walumrød’s first without the accompaniment of her Magical Orchestra. It’s a collection of hushed, gentle songs born out of too many late nights listening to Joni Mitchell’s Blue. The influence is obvious, but that isn’t to say that this is merely a derivative exercise. There is a melancholy stillness about this album that’s a long way from early seventies California, but very firmly of the now. The instrumentation is fairly stark and as unrevealing as the dark cover portrait (which seems to have been taken when Walumrød was having a bit of a bad hair day!)
